"That's What I'm Talking About"
James Rosenquist was a painter I admire. His work has realistic elements but often combined on the picture plane without regard to their real world size or adjacent objects. Later in his career, his work became more abstracted. That's is what this painting is... a pop culture person (Scotty Scheffler) throwing his hat to the ground after winning the PGA Championship. Obscured by translucent paint, are the PGA trophy and a golf club. The rest of the painting is abstracted. The painting is oil and cold wax and lends itself to overlapping layers and I used brayers to apply a large portion of the paint. The sides are finished and signed on the lower right side and the reverse.
